- AboutMy name is Martin Petrovic and I started Create Energy as a medium to share my love for an amazing life practice called Qigong, as well as other fitness and healing arts. As a student and teacher, I feel inspired to write about my ever-evolving experience and to offer fun and engaging classes. In 2004, following severe injuries in a car accident, I received many hours of personal healing sessions from a Qigong healer in Seattle, WA. To my surprise, I witnessed a miraculous transformation. Against almost impossible odds, my health was effectively restored, both in body and mind. I was even able to return to college tennis and continue my education. At the same time, I began to pursue Qigong practice regularly. I was fortunate to study with my healer and friend Claire Johnson, who eventually guided me to complete teacher training with herself and Grandmaster Mingtang Xu, so that I could extend the benefits to others. I started teaching formally in 2007 and have taught at Metta Community Yoga in Phoenix, AZ and Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. Although the benefits are numerous, the main reasons that people practice Qigong are for their health, as a means of self cultivation and as part of their Chinese martial arts training. What are the benefits of Qigong? Qigong exercise is a powerful self-healing tool. It has been shown to be effective in general health maintenance, physical rehabilitation, stress management, hypertension, bone density and balance, cancer treatment, arthritis, back pains, etc. It is multi-purposeful, and can be tailored for many similar ailments. Who can do Qigong? Anyone! Really, it’s true. How long is a typical class? Anywhere from 50 – 75 minutes. What should I wear? Comfortable clothes, nothing metallic. What should I expect during class? You will be guided through a series of spontaneous movements, breathing techniques, formal exercises and standing meditation. Is Qigong safe for me? Yes! It is safe and fun for all ages and abilities. However, if you have a medical condition or other concerns, please check with your primary healthcare provider before beginning any exercise program. How much does it cost? Depending on the studio, $10-15.

1 Create Energy!?
The goal with any life practice such as yoga or martial arts is to bring happiness and wisdom into our lives. Some may practice to achieve great strength, flexibility, or even mastery of the elements. Others may be looking to lose weight or just stay in shape. Ultimately, self-development and mind-body practices improve our focus and clarity in life and bring a greater sense of peace and harmony. Scientific minds may argue that you can’t really create energy, and according to the laws of thermodynamics, that’s true. Our goal is simply to harness the abundant energy around us to cultivate health and self-healing, enriched with balance and awareness. Rooted in ancient traditions of martial art, Chinese medicine, Taoism, and Buddhism, Qigong is a mind-body practice that is designed to improve physical, emotional and spiritual health. It combines breath, relaxation, dynamic movement, body awareness, stretching, meditation and visualization. Combined with modern science, it is one of the most powerful and effective self-healing methods in the world today. 3 How does it work?
As the founder of Create Energy, Martin developed his own unique style that fuses his passion for teaching and love of anatomy and body mechanics with several healing methods and exercise forms. During a typical class, you will be guided through a series of spontaneous movements, breathing techniques, formal exercises and standing meditation. The movements and exercises create harmonizing forces that balance and enhance systems of the body, thereby improving health and emotional well-being. The result is a feeling of lightness and increased energy that can lead to greater freedom and perception. With practice, you will develop the ability to recognize how different factors affect your state of being and overall health.
